Where and How to Follow the Iditarod

Note: Dates on my 2008 pics are wrong.
Hope I do better this year!

Unlike most of our country's important sporting events, the Iditarod has very little media coverage outside of Alaska, and except for the Start and the Finish, little is televised because of the remoteness of the trail.  The internet becomes the perfect place to follow the Last Great Race, and here are a few sites, in case you haven't found them already.  I will be adding to this list as I become aware of new sites.

http://www.iditarod.com/  (The official Iditarod site.  Check it out before the race.  It's a little hard to find things, but with some poking around, you'll get a wealth of information, and regular race updates.)

HTTP://IDITAROD.COM/INSIDER/INDEX.HTML (Live streaming or start and finish, regular videos of checkpoints throughout the race, GPS tracking availabe - this costs $19.95-$33.95)

HTTP://MUSHING.BSSD.ORG/FORUM  (Public Iditarod talk forum that is well monitored and moderated, and is extremely active during the race.  You will find both fans and musher's families following the race together.)

http://www.iditablog.com/ (A great blog last year.  Search for other blogs, especially those of the mushers, often listed under the musher's bio on the Iditarod.com site)

KTUU-TV CHANNEL 2 (Great coverage)

ALASKA PUBLIC RADIO (http://www.iditarod.aprn.org/)

ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS (Great coverage)  WWW.ADN.COM/IDITAROD

THE NOME NUGGET (http://www.nomenugget.net/)

Thanks for the lead to some of these lesser-known (to me) sources local to AK. I didn't have highspeed internet last year so this year will be a treat to hopefully catch some streaming video, especially of the start. Thanks!

Not sure where I found it, but we are enjoying www.alaskadispatch.com/projects/iditarod-2010 for some race analysis.
