Ok, I'm here. Arrived middle of the night to a new 6 inches of snow that had even Alaskan streets fairly dangerous. Today I'm out and about at Iditarod Headquarters and downtown Anchorage. This morning had a visit with Karen Fletcher at the Millenium, catching up on 'news' since she is volunteering in 'comms' and 'phones' at headquarters. The lobby was 'hopping' with groups of volunteers transferring from recent checkpoints waiting to be flown out further down the trail.
Big news this am, is that I saw Pat Moon, he's out of the hospital and was in the lobby, had a cast on his lower arm, otherwise looking quite chipper. That's good news. He was getting a lot of attention, so I didn't bother him.

We saw on the national news this morning that there was a question about drugs in the Iditarod. This apparently had to do with some painkillers one of the mushers had been taking after an injury. The newscaster said the musher made it clear he wouldn't be taking anything during the race.

I was really sorry to hear about Pat's scratching. When I think of the effort, expense and anticipation that gets dashed when anyone scratches, it is almost heartbreaking. Even more so in Pat's case since his race was designed to be a camping trip really, a journey that was a more of a psychological metaphor.

Mary, that has been blown out of proportion. He is a man who has had cancer surgeries and treatment. He is very much agreeing not to take his prescribed 'meds' during this race to prove it was not 'enhancing' his abilities. Grrr for rumors blown up
