Glimpse of Life in Rural Alaska
Sitting in motel lobby, a young Native Alaskan mother cradles her newborn baby. Two quiet children, bundled for the cold, stand nearby as Dad bustles around loading tons of luggage, baby supplies, and groceries from a large cart, out the door, into a waiting taxi. He hurries back in, makes sure the 2 toddlers coats are snug for the near zero temperature outside, and tucks them in the taxi. He comes back in and leans in gently toward his wife, takes the infant and tucks her inside his coat. He gives a loving took to Mom, faces close together, and leads this woman who has just given birth to his child, to the car, to the plane, and to their home. Imagine the planning it took to get this family from the Bush to Anchorage in time to have this child born in a hospital, and get all the supplies needed when they get back home, maybe hundreds of miles from the nearest stores
